Vocal Stimming

I still am having struggles with verbal stimming! I will make constant vocal noises!  This gets worse when I am excited!  I would love to find a cure for that. Autism is so complicated!  I think the brain is a mystery to be explored!  So many problems can be cured by healing the brain!

I realize everyone’s symptoms and the severity of those symptoms is different; you’ve said yourself that many people with autism are very different. With that being said, I am curious to know what you think of stimming in “socially acceptable” ways, and how that affects how much we can function, as well as how we are accepted.

For example, my vocal stimming hasn’t presented a large issue for me, but I think a part of that can be attributed to the fact that it often will come out as songs or melodic sounds. This can still bother others, especially since I’ll tend to repeat the same notes or lyrics over and over, (“Stop singing” is something I’m used to hearing) but it definitely doesn’t seem to bother the people around me as much as my friends whose vocal stims are less structured sounds. If you had to choose one, would you prefer to control whether or not you stim at all, or just how disruptive it is to functioning?
